  • Nativity scene
    • "St. Francis of Assisi is credited with creating the first nativity scene in 1223 at Greccio, Italy, in an attempt to place the emphasis of Christmas upon the worship of Christ rather than upon secular materialism and gift giving."
    • "Matthew's narrative tells of "wise men" (grk.μαγοι magoi) who follow a star to the house where Jesus dwelt, and indicates that the Magi found Jesus some time later, less than two years after his birth, rather than on the exact day."
    • "A donkey (or ass) and an ox typically appear in nativity scenes. The Gospels do not mention an ox and donkey."
    • "The account does not mention the number of people "they" or "the Magi" refers to, the three gifts has led to the widespread assumption that there were three men."
